Health Center Provides COVID Safety Reminders; Fall Masking Guidance Coming Later This Month

University Health Center Director Dr. Spyridon Marinopoulos sent the following email to the campus community today: I hope you are enjoying a healthy and safe summer break. I’m writing today with a few updates and reminders regarding our current COVID-19 requirements and protocols for the Fall 2022 semester.

The University of Maryland has been nominated in the 2022 awards competition sponsored by Unique Venues in the category Planner’s Choice for Youth Retreats & Camps.

$1.34M Grant to Reinforce Smith’s Center for Global Business

A $1.34 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education through its Title IV Centers for International Business program will enable the Center for Global Business (CBG) at UMD’s Robert H. Smith School of Business to expand its portfolio of programs through 2026. The primary focus will involve applying lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure U.S. companies’ competitiveness into the future.

Wave of Activism After Floyd’s Murder Grew Based on Multiple Issues, Identities, Study Finds

The Washington, D.C., demonstrations that followed George Floyd’s May 2020 murder by a police officer marked some of the most racially diverse protests against racial injustice ever documented in the United States. Participants were motivated not only by systemic racism, but other salient issues tied to their personal identities as well, according to University of Maryland research published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences.

Provost Invites Participation in Four Strategic Plan Committees

UMD Offers Survey, Conversations on Investing in Staff

One of the priorities of UMD’s new strategic plan, Fearlessly Forward, is to invest in people and communities, so the university is asking staff to share perspectives on their work life and ideas for improvement on the short survey, which is open until 5 p.m. July 1. Participation is voluntary, and responses will be anonymous.

UMD Marks 10 Years of DACA Expanding Opportunities

Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Georgina Dodge sent the following email to the campus community today: This year marks the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. On June 15, 2012, President Barack Obama issued an executive order that created the program that has come to be known as DACA. On this anniversary, we pause to acknowledge how DACA expanded opportunities, changed lives and strengthened campuses, workplaces and the country over the past decade.
