Farmers Market-Goers Pedal to Make Smoothies During UMD Bike Week
Senior Drexi Alle makes a mango, berry and strawberry smoothie, aided by BikeUMD's Ben Morrill.
Some Terps looking to cool down during the midweek warm spell may have bought a refreshing treat. Others had to pedal for it.
Yesterday, the Farmers Market at Maryland returned for the spring semester, shifting to Tawes Plaza Garden from outside of Cole Field House. Besides the market’s array of local vendors selling vegetables, fudge and cold-brewed coffee, DOTS and University Recreation and Wellness hosted a bike “blending station.” Students, faculty and staff hopped into the saddle to whip up their own free fruit smoothies .
The biking booth was part of UMD Bike Week, which also includes a sunset ride, commuter breakfast and bike parade.
Pedaling to mix her own smoothie was “a hoot,” said Erika Sawicki ’20, calling her banana, strawberry and O.J. beverage “definitely a win.”
