UMD ranked among the top public institutions in influential college rankings this month.
The University of Maryland stands among the best public colleges in the nation, according to new rankings from The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education and U.S. News & World Report.
UMD came in at No. 17 on the WSJ/Times Higher Education listing, and No. 24 with U.S. News. Both recognize the university’s dedication to student success and learning in the classroom and beyond.
The rankings are designed to answer the questions that matter most to students and their families when deciding on a college. The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education team looked at more than 800 colleges and schools; its methodology focused on available teaching resources, effective engagement between the campus and its students, graduation rates and degree value in the workforce, and diversity of learning environment.
U.S. News & World Report rankings include data on nearly 1,400 schools across the U.S. They relied on 15 factors of academic quality, including average ACT/SAT scores of admitted students, student-faculty ratios and graduation rates. The ranking additionally listed the university in the top 40 as a Best College for Veterans and was recognized for its ethnic diversity and its acclaimed living-learning communities.
