Four Hours of Paid Administrative Leave Available Through Oct. 31 to Participants
Faculty and staff can participate in the state’s Day of Service Program both remotely and in person.
Jewel M. Washington, assistant vice president for University Human Resources, and Gloria Aparicio-Blackwell, director of the Office of Community Engagement, sent the following email to the campus community today:
As an expression of the University of Maryland’s service mission, President Darryll J. Pines encourages us all to help our communities by participating in the Day to Serve initiative declared by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.
The Day to Serve Program encourages all Marylanders to choose at least one day between Sept. 11 and Oct. 31 to participate in or host a volunteer activity. This initiative unites citizens in volunteer efforts and recognizes the exceptional community service that occurs year-round in the state of Maryland. In response to this year's public health challenges, for the first time, opportunities to volunteer will be available both in person and remotely.
Employees will be eligible for four hours of paid administrative leave for service performed as part of this program.
Before participating, you must discuss with your supervisor the day and time you wish to volunteer.
After you participate, we want to hear about your experience. Please submit a brief summary of your service opportunity that includes the number of volunteers, hours of work and a description to the Office of Community Engagement at oce@umd.edu. This will allow us to showcase UMD's commitment to the Day to Serve.
Visit our Community Engagement website or the Governor's Day of Service website for more information on programs you can join or host.
