University Human Resources is accepting registrations for a new free program for multilingual and non-native English-speaking staff who want to strengthen their workplace communication skills.
Building Bridges: Language Learning for Staff Belonging and Success at the University of Maryland is offered by University Human Resources in partnership with the Maryland English Institute and EnGen, an online English language learning platform that provides robust personalized language support to non-native speaking UMD community members.
Weekly in-person sessions are held during work hours, so employees can easily attend.
How it works:
- Weekly conversation practice: Join a 75-minute, in-person peer learning group led by trained UMD student facilitators.
- Flexible online learning: Access self-paced, online lessons on the EnGen platform anytime, anywhere.
- Practical growth: Apply what you learn directly to your daily work interactions and career opportunities over a 10-week themed curriculum.
Staff can sign up directly; supervisors and team members are encouraged to champion this opportunity and help staff register. The deadline is Dec. 1.
For questions or more information about the program, please contact uhrbuildingbridges@umd.edu.
Funding for this program was awarded by UMD’s Do Good Campus Fund.
