4 Questions for a Full Return

Health Center Director Addresses Evolving COVID-19 Concerns

As the University of Maryland prepares to fully reopen for Fall 2021, University Health Center Director Dr. Spyridon Marinopoulos provides the latest guidance for a safe experience amid the spread of the more-contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

The new entry in the “4 Questions With Dr. Marinopoulos” video series covers the following topics:

  • Why is it important to be vaccinated?
  • Should I be concerned about the Delta variant?
  • Do I need to wear a mask?
  • What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant about being vaccinated?

Additionally, students, faculty, staff and community members can receive COVID-19 vaccinations at the following on-campus clinics:

University Health Center Vaccine Clinic: The Pfizer vaccine will be available to all students, faculty and staff, for first- or second-dose appointments, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 20 at the University Health Center. Free parking is available for attendees at the Union Lane Garage. Schedule an appointment at myuhc.umd.edu.

Safeway Pharmacy Vaccine Clinic: The Pfizer vaccine will be available to students, faculty, staff and the Greater College Park community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25 at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, and additional dates may be added if needed. Free parking is available to attendees in the Stadium Garage. Register for the Safeway Pharmacy Vaccine Clinic.

The University System of Maryland has mandated vaccination for all students and personnel at USM institutions, including UMD.

Employees and students who are unvaccinated, regardless of whether they have a health or religious exemption, will be expected to wear masks at all times on campus indoors and in crowded areas outdoors, and be tested twice weekly for COVID-19. Those who are vaccinated must also wear masks indoors except in specific circumstances.

The campus clinic schedule above has been updated since the original publication of this article.
