It’s the best (if convoluted) kind of math problem: You have six hours Saturday to hit as many of the 392 events at Maryland Day as possible. How do you divide your time?

The massive open house, which typically draws 75,000 visitors to campus, is back for the 21st year. Interactive events, displays and activities spanning five “learning neighborhoods” will showcase the university’s academics, research, arts, athletics and Do Good spirit—all thanks to hundreds of student, staff and faculty volunteers.

It’s fun. It’s family-friendly. It’s full of free swag. And you don’t need a calculator to figure it all out. Just visit marylandday.umd.edu, click on the “Plan Your Day” tool and find your favorite events’ locations on the interactive map.

Meanwhile, here are just a few of the day’s highlights:

1. In the bag: The first 15,000 guests can pick up a free commemorative shopping tote. Grab yours at one of 11 information booths across campus. 2. Building excitement: It’s the grand opening of the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering 3. Score! Maryland Football’s Red and White Spring Game returns. (It was last held in 2011.) Fan Fest follows. 4. International flavors: Dining Services celebrates the Year of Immigration on the Cooking Stage with globally inspired recipes. 5. Hot times: Extinguish a live fire or stand back and see an 8-foot fire tornado 6. Take a tree home: ANGR gives away native oak tree seedlings. 7. Flip out with Gymkana: Watch the troupe perform, or take flight yourself on their gymnastics equipment. 8. Creepy crawlers: Get up close and personal with tarantulas, exotic insects and scorpions. 9. Go play: Be hands-on with props, costumes and wacky musical instruments at The Clarice. 10. Lacrosse showdowns: Stick around after Maryland Day to watch the women’s and men’s lacrosse teams take on archrival Johns Hopkins.
