Practice Fields, Center for Brain Health and Human Performance, Entrepreneurship Space All to Come
The indoor practice facility at Cole Field House was completed in summer 2017. It is used by numerous athletics teams and has hosted university events.
Two outdoor practice fields are slated for completion this fall in the next step of Cole Field House’s transformation into a new campus hub at the intersection of research, innovation and sport.
Construction continues on the more than 300,000-square-foot iconic building, whose athletic facilities will include offices for football staff, a 20,000-square-foot weight room, a 4,000-square-foot cardio mezzanine, locker rooms for the football team and returning NFL alums, a two-level auditorium, dining facilities and a sports medicine area that all student-athletes will use, a recruiting room and a 3,000-square-foot patio that looks out onto Maryland Stadium.
In the latest collaboration between UMD and the University of Maryland, Baltimore through the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State, Cole will house the Center for Brain Health and Human Performance. Research conducted there will improve disease diagnosis from cancer to age-related cognitive decline. Plans also include unparalleled multimodal imaging, research-focused sleep suites and next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing.
Cole Field House will also feature a signature space for entrepreneurship and innovation programs across campus.
