Keep Calm This Finals Week With Stamp Study Zone

Ease Your Mind With Events to De-Stress, Peaceful Spots to Study

Tantalizing hints of the impending summer break waft on recent pleasant breezes. But with exams, presentations and papers to complete first, it might seem hard to keep your cool.

Lucky for Terps, the Division of Student Affairs’ Stamp Study Zone is back to help them blow off some steam. Events featuring meditation, movies, movement and more aim to both bust stress and provide quiet study spaces and materials.

“It’s very important, especially around this time when students get really high stress and are constantly worrying about getting everything done, to have resources centralized in one spot for students to explore and figure out what they need,” said Kyrsha Balderas, a coordinator for events and contracts at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union.

Check out some ways to take a mental break starting Friday:

Let Your Mind Unwind

Rest and Reflect: A Social Wellness Event | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 8, Tawes Plaza
Hosted by the Graduate School but open to the entire UMD community, this event offers restorative activities like yoga, a “sound bath” of gongs, chimes and other calming tones, and dancing in a relaxed environment.

Drop-in Group Meditation | Noon-12:30 p.m. May 8 and 15, Online
Whether you’re a meditation novice or expert, log on to explore mindfulness and grounding practices with University Health Center staff.

Outdoor Movie | 8 p.m. May 8, McKeldin Mall
Grab a blanket and some friends for a screening of “High School Musical 2,” hosted by Student Entertainment Events, RecWell and Senior Class Council.

TerpStudyZone | 11 a.m.-8 p.m. May 9-15, TerpZone in the Stamp
Drop by to take a break with bowling, billiards or video games.

Self-CARE Creative Space | 6-7:30 p.m. May 13, Jimenez Hall
Join Campus Advocates Respond and Educate (CARE) to Stop Violence for a finals reset: Discuss boundary-setting strategies and make your own self-care kits, with all materials provided.

Wags for Wellness | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 14, University Health Center and 1-3 p.m. May 15, McKeldin Library
Settle in for a cute, calming cuddle with a trained volunteer pup from the group People. Animals. Love. (PAL), which will be doggedly providing connection, companionship and stress relief.

Slime ’n’ Study | 1-3 p.m. May 14, Juan Ramon Jimenez Room in the Stamp
Stamp Programs and the Transfer and Off-Campus Student Life office invite Terps to craft their own soothing slime. Tables will also be available for those who want to split their study and slime time.

Enjoy a cozy, quiet study area with a view of the meditative Garden of Reflection and Remembrance, open for drop-in hours.
