Leading players in “Terp Jacks” while wearing a white No. 24 jersey and red cleats, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore surprised Maryland football’s first day of training camp on Wednesday.
“I love the fire that (Head Coach Michael Locksley) brings to the team,” Moore said. “I love the fire that he brings to every practice. You practice like you play. And I think these guys are here playing like they intend to win.”
The former Johns Hopkins University wide receiver joined the Terps in drills, even catching a pass from quarterback M.J. Morris. The team then presented Moore with a custom game ball and a red No. 63 jersey in honor of his position as the 63rd governor.
“You have an entire state that has your back because every single day you have ours,” Moore told the team. “Go out and show them what it means to be a Terp.”
The Terps play their season opener Aug. 31 at home against the University of Connecticut.
