The No. 3-ranked Maryland women’s lacrosse team won a tense, back-and-forth battle with No. 6 Navy on Thursday, 14-10, to punch its ticket to the NCAA Final Four.
Playing at SECU Stadium, Maryland (18-3, 6-2 Big Ten) scored the final five goals of the game and had six different players log multipoint games to reach the NCAA Tournament Semifinals for the 29th time.
The Terps will head to Chicago to face No. 2 North Carolina at 3 p.m. May 22; the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Keeley Block and Lauren LaPointe each scored a hat trick. Scoring her first of two goals in the game, Korey Edmondson earned her 218th-career point, moving her past her head coach Cathy Reese and into a tie for 26th place in Maryland's record book. JJ Suriano locked down the victory in the net with nine saves.
Navy was led by a six-goal performance from Alyssa Chung, who earned Navy's single-season goal record (83) on the day. The Midshipmen dropped to 20-2 (8-1 Patriot) on the season.
Under Reese, Maryland has five national championships, most recently in 2019. She is now 45-13 at Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.
