Friday Night Lights: Maryland Football to Host Iowa on Oct. 1

By Maryland Athletics Staff

The Maryland football team will play its 2021 home game against Iowa on Friday, Oct. 1 at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, Maryland Athletics announced today. This will mark the third consecutive year that the Terps host a Friday night game.

The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2. Kick time and television designation will be announced at a later date.

Last season, Maryland outlasted Minnesota, 45-44, in overtime on Friday, Oct. 30. With 1.912 million viewers, that game was the most-viewed since the start of the Big Ten Conference’s Friday night games in 2017. It was also the highest-rated ESPN Friday night game in 2020 and Maryland’s highest-rated game on cable TV since a 2017 victory over Texas.

In 2019, Maryland hosted Penn State before a sellout crowd of 53,228, the sixth-largest turnout in Maryland Stadium history.

With yesterday’s announcement of Maryland’s road game at Illinois moving to Friday night, this marks the first time since 1954 that the Terps will play two games in one season on Friday.

An updated 2021 Maryland football schedule is available at UMTerps.com. Season tickets are now on sale.
