Field Hockey Team to Host First Round of NCAA Tournament

The Maryland field hockey team (16-5) on Sunday night earned its 35th overall NCAA Tournament bid. The Terrapins, the No. 4 overall seed, will take on Old Dominion (14-5) at noon Friday in the first round at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

Virginia (12-6) will take on Saint Joseph's (15-4) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in College Park, with the winning teams advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Terrapins own a record of 68-26 (.725) in the NCAA Tournament and a record of 64-25 (.720) under head coach Missy Meharg. The Terrapins have advanced to 21 Final Fours and have won eight NCAA titles (1987, 1993, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011).

Maryland fell to Northwestern, 1-0 in double overtime, in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game Sunday. Freshmen Josie Hollamon and Alyssa Klebasko were named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

Four other Big Ten teams earned NCAA Tournament bids: Rutgers, Northwestern and Iowa.
