3 Women’s Lacrosse Players Named Preseason All-Americans

By Maryland Athletics Staff

Three Maryland women’s lacrosse players were named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse, the publication announced today.

  • First-team selection Lizzie Colson, a redshirt senior, is a two-time All-American, earning third-team honors in 2018 and 2019. She is also a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time All-Big Ten Tournament honoree and a four-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Colson led Maryland with 45 ground balls and stood second in both draw controls (127) and caused turnovers (25) in the 2019 national championship season. Earlier this winter, Inside Lacrosse ranked her No. 14 among collegiate players.
  • Third-team pick Brindi Griffin, a fifth-year attacker, notched Inside Lacrosse preseason All-American honors a second straight year. Last season, she led the Terps with 15 goals and stood second with 18 points while picking up six ground balls. She finished that COVID-shortened season with eight goals and one assist in the final two games en route to Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. She has 97 goals, 54 assists and 151 points in her career and was crucial in Maryland's 2019 national championship run, scoring nine goals in the Final Four.
  • Senior Grace Griffin, an honorable mention selection, earned Inside Lacrosse preseason All-American honors for the third consecutive season. The 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year enters 2021 with 77 goals, 22 assists, 99 points, 73 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers under her belt. She was second on the team with 17 ground balls and third with eight caused turnovers last season.
