A ‘Tremendous Start’

Watch the Video: First Week of Classes Shows Excitement of Full Return to Campus

Throngs of Terps crisscrossing McKeldin Mall in the sunshine. The rat-a-tat and bada-bada-bada from the Mighty Sound of Maryland’s drumline on Chapel Field. The simple act of stepping into a lecture hall or lab.

The start of the academic year by definition arrives annually, but none perhaps has ever felt so special as this one.

In this “back to school” video recapping Fall 2021’s first week, University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines welcomes the community and celebrates resuming in-person experiences following a year disrupted by the pandemic. In visits across campus, he encourages everyone to participate in UMD’s pursuit of inclusive excellence and adherence to 4 Maryland health and safety guidelines.
