Record-setting Temps Send Students Outside

In February, May-like temperatures feel like August, so Jasmine Akhtar ’21 (left) and Claudia Torrieri '22 took the opportunity to stretch out in the sun next to the ODK Fountain.

Maybe there’s something to that groundhog nonsense after all.

Three days after Punxsutawney Phil failed to see his shadow, predicting an early spring, the season showed up, with gusto.

The temperature at Reagan National Airport in Washington soared to a record-breaking 73 degrees yesterday, prompting students to emerge like bears from winter hibernation, but in better moods.

They shed their coats, dusted off their hammocks and Frisbees, and sprawled on sun-warmed sidewalks.

The weather seesaw continues for the next few days, as the National Weather Service forecast a high of 46 today, with rain likely in the afternoon, a chance of showers and a high of 63 tomorrow and Friday, and a cold front roaring in this weekend.
