Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Finalist Visits Scheduled
First Candidate for New Position Meets Today With Faculty, Staff, Students

The first of the finalists for the new position of vice president for diversity and inclusion will meet members of the campus community today. Enobong Hannah Branch is the associate chancellor for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a sociology professor.
Four finalists for the new position of vice president of diversity and inclusion will come to campus for interviews, with the first candidate appearing today in two public forums.
Enobong Hannah Branch, inaugural associate chancellor for equity & inclusion and chief diversity officer for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst as well as a professor of sociology, will appear in a campus open forum for faculty, staff and students from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in 1224 Edward St. John Teaching & Learning Center.
She’ll then meet specifically with graduate and undergraduate students from 4:15-5 p.m. in the same room. Attendees at either forum are invited to fill out a confidential candidate feedback form afterward.
Because of the confidential nature of the search process, candidates’ names are being released one day prior to their visits to campus. Forums in the same formats at 3:30 and 4:15 p.m. have been scheduled on the following days:
- Friday, March 1 in 1224 Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center.
- Tuesday, March 5 in 6137 McKeldin Library (Special Events Room).
- Thursday, March 7 in 6137 McKeldin Library (Special Events Room).
The search committee for the new vice president position, co-chaired by Lucy Dalglish, dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and Warren Kelley, assistant vice president for student affairs, is working to schedule a possible fifth finalist’s visit to UMD.
The vice president of diversity and inclusion will serve as a member of the president’s cabinet and will work with faculty, staff, students, system partners and external constituents to strengthen the infrastructure to advance diversity, equity and inclusion as core institutional values.
He/She/Xe will also lead the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), which encourages and supports the efforts of units throughout the university to achieve their diversity and inclusion goals. ODI coordinates activities and programs, as well as inclusion and diversity initiatives on campus and beyond.
