Rolando Mendez of Facilities Management posts a sign in the Miller Administration Building for a new information campaign, 4 Maryland, that will provide guidance about safe behaviors for students, faculty and staff on campus. University Registrar Adrian R. Cornelius details the three ways courses will be delivered in the fall—face-to-face, online or blended—in an email sent to students today.

University Registrar Adrian R. Cornelius sent the following email to students today:

We hope you and your family are doing well.

We are pleased to announce that updates to the delivery methods for Fall 2020 course offerings have been completed. Please carefully read the details in this message for information about your course schedule.

1. Check your Student Schedule to view the delivery method for each of the courses for which you are currently registered. Courses are offered face-to face, blended or online.

  • Face-to-face: The class meets together, physically on campus for all class meetings. This appears with the following text on your Student Schedule: “This section is face-to-face.”
  • Blended Learning: The class meets both in-person and online. This appears with the following text on your Student Schedule: “This section is blended.”
    • Most blended courses meet together, physically in a classroom on some days and online on other days, as noted on the Schedule of Classes.
    • In a few blended courses, the class will be divided into smaller groups that alternate between face-to-face and online participation, such that on any given day, one group participates face-to-face while the other group simultaneously participates online. In such cases, your instructor determines when each group will meet face-to-face versus online. These courses are indicated by the following note on the Schedule of Classes: “Alternating face-to-face/online class meeting. Please see instructor for details.”
  • Online: The class meets online in one of three ways: synchronously, asynchronously, or a combination of both. This appears with the following text on your Student Schedule: “This section is online.”
    • Synchronous: instructor meets with all students at a specified day and time, which will be reflected on your student schedule and also in the schedule of classes.
    • Asynchronous: instructor provides content for students to review on their own, which will be reflected as “TBA” on your student schedule and also as such in the schedule of classes.
    • Combination: includes synchronous and asynchronous instruction, which will be reflected as noted above.

2. If you need to make changes to your schedule, you have the option of searching for courses by delivery method when you access the Schedule of Classes.
