A Thank You-athon to Donors
Students Across Campus Sign Thank You Cards on “GratiTuesday”

Tyran Hunt, a sophomore from Courtland, Va., was among the students who paused outside of McKeldin Library to write thank you notes to donors on GratiTuesday.
“My life was headed in a different direction, and now I’m here.” “Thank you so much! I’m loving my time here.” “I’m so thankful that UMD has helped me find what I love to study.”
Hundreds of Terps filled out thank-you cards sharing such sentiments yesterday during “GratiTuesday,” an event organized by the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship as part of Homecoming Week festivities. All participants were thanked in return, through a cookie with a philanthropy fact.
The goal was twofold: to share with students how philanthropy extends beyond scholarships to shape all parts of the campus experience, and to show donors how much students recognize the value of philanthropy.
Card stations were set up on McKeldin Mall near the Testudo statue—a gift from the class of 1933—with locations in A. James Clark Hall, Tydings Hall, the Cambridge Community Center and Architecture Building at varying times throughout the day.
“Our students are incredible, and this program is another example of their tremendous appreciation for the UMD experience," said Marc Greenberg '93, who chairs the Stewardship Committee of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation's Board of Trustees. “Teaching gratitude is an important part of life’s required coursework, and we are excited that student philanthropy is a UMD priority.”
