A center to understand and conquer traumatic brain injury. Resources to care for the survivors of human trafficking while studying the global problem. Academic initiatives in fields ranging from law to bioengineering, taking advantage of the combined expertise of two research institutions.

These are some of the ongoing accomplishments of the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State, a collaboration between the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) to leverage the strengths of each to benefit the state, and beyond.

Researchers and leaders from the two institutions are in Annapolis today to meet with legislators at MPowering the State Advocacy Day and demonstrate how the 7-year-old strategic partnership uniquely tackles problems.

MPower includes hundreds of collaborations working on 25 joint programs, initiatives and centers. Among the highlights:

  • UMB and UMCP attracted $1.2 billion in federal, state and local research grants and contracts in 2018.
  • Joint funding worth $164 million has been awarded to 513 joint MPower research projects since since 2012.
