Hovering above a spacecraft fuselage, aerospace engineering graduate students Kate McBryan (above) and Chris Carlsen work with EUCLID, a free-flying underwater robot, in UMD’s Neutral Buoyancy Research Facility. Along with NASA’s, it’s one of only two operating neutral buoyancy tanks in the United States. It was originally built for orbital operations studies, but faculty and students today also use it to simulate robotic operations in lunar and Mars gravity.
