From Cole to Stamp, Improvements Continue on Campus
Construction on campus includes projects at H.J. Patterson Hall, the Stamp Student Union and more.
It might seem like the campus was quiet all summer, but drywallers, dozers and drills powered through the season on construction and renovation projects that will improve the Maryland experience for students, faculty, staff and guests.
Bill Olen, executive director of planning and construction for Facilities Management, gives an overview of the work you might be seeing now.
Biology-Psychology Building
Work is wrapping up on a new roof for the building. “It was one of the biggest roof projects we’ve done,” said Olen. Most of the work was completed over the summer and will be finished this month.
Cole Field House
Ongoing construction will turn Cole Field House into a leading facility at the intersection of research, academics and sports. This fall, the landmark building will get new windows, brick and exterior metal panels, and progress continues on the two outdoor practice fields. (The indoor field is already in use.) When complete, the facility will include a center focusing on brain health and research to enhance human performance, and a signature space for entrepreneurship and innovation programs across campus.
H.J. Patterson Hall
Construction in Wing 2 continues until next summer on a new mechanical system to provide heating and air conditioning for H.J. Patterson, Jimenez Hall and the University Health Center. The parking lot on the north side of the building is closed, but will be open for ADA-compliant parking.
Adele H. Stamp Student Union
The northwest corner of one of the campus’ must bustling buildings is getting a new entry following the removal of the existing one. The new entry will be more accessible to everyone. Work is expected to be completed by the end of September.
Union Lane Garage
Maintenance on the upper level will continue for the first several weeks of the semester. The lower level is open for parking.
