Varshney Reappointed Dean of College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences

By Maryland Today Staff

Senior Vice President and Provost Jennifer King Rice sent the following email to campus leaders:

I am pleased to inform you that I am reappointing Dr. Amitabh Varshney as dean of the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) for a second five-year term, extending through June 30, 2028.

This decision follows a positive comprehensive five-year performance review, chaired by Samuel Graham, Jr., dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering. The review was conducted thoroughly and gave Dean Varshney high marks for his many accomplishments during his first term. Dean Varshney’s review indicated a great level of satisfaction in his leadership and ability to foster excellence in the teaching, scholarship and service activities in the college. The report of the committee also provided recommendations for continued success and growth in the years ahead.

I have discussed the report with Dean Varshney, and he shared with me his thoughtful observations and plans for continuing to advance the mission of the college and addressing the recommendations of the committee. He has my full support. His success rests on everyone in CMNS, and I am confident that under Dean Varshney’s leadership, the CMNS community will continue on its upward trajectory. I am pleased with the successes in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences under his tenure and look forward to even greater achievements in the years ahead.
