The University of Maryland is seeking applicants for the two candidates it may submit for student regent.
The winning nominee systemwide will serve from July 1, 2021-June 30, 2023 on the Board of Regents, the governing board for the system’s 12 institutions of higher education, three regional higher education centers and one system office. Two students serve on the board each year, and one is a full voting member.
The board’s responsibilities include setting tuition and fees for the institutions, approving capital and operating budgets, issuing bonds, appointing the chancellor and all institutional presidents and approving new degree programs.
Completed applications are due online by 5 p.m. Nov. 13. The system’s student council will interview and select the finalists, who will be forwarded to the chancellor, then the governor.
