UMPD Seeks Community Assistance in Locating Missing Student

The University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) is asking for community help to locate a 22-year-old University of Maryland student missing since Friday.

Security camera footage shows Dilan Shaan Ashar leaving his residence at approximately 2 a.m. wearing a black UMD hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white shoes.

He was last seen on camera about a half-hour later at the Terrapin Trail Garage on campus. Ashar is approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and 185 pounds.

UMPD is leading the search, which began later Friday morning in conjunction with Prince George’s County Police Department after officers from the two agencies met with the student’s concerned parents. A search of 110 acres near Terrapin Trail garage early Sunday yielded negative results, UMPD reported.

Anyone with information about Ashar’s whereabouts or other pertinent facts is requested to call UMPD at 301-405-3555. People wishing to remain anonymous may email https://umpd.umd.edu/contact-us/submit-tip
