UMPD Comfort Dog’s Name Revealed

By Maryland Today Staff

Meet Teddy! The University of Maryland Police Department’s adorable comfort dog now has a name, thanks to input from the UMD community.

After a weeklong online vote, Terps chose “Teddy” for the 12-week-old chocolate Laborador. He’s just weeks away from starting his role as UMPD’s ambassador at campus events and serving as support during stressful times.

“We are here to help people through crises, guard them against any wrongdoing or any threat, and comfort them along the way,” said Chief David Mitchell. Teddy “adds to that mission. He loves to be petted and loves to be held—he gives people a reason to smile.”
