UMD-College Park Homeownership Program Celebrates 100th Buyer

The University of Maryland, city of College Park and state officials on Tuesday will welcome the 100th participant of the College Park City-University Partnership’s down-payment assistance program—a homecoming during UMD’s Homecoming Week.

Called Live+Work College Park, it provides $20,000 in downpayment and closing cost assistance to individuals employed full-time in College Park and the Discovery District. The program creates a pathway for employees to live where they work: reducing commutes and enhancing their quality of life.

Since 2015, the partnership has tallied 103 homebuyers to College Park, supporting $40.5 million in home sales within the city of College Park. In addition, the program supports local and regional sustainability goals and encourages homeownership. The 100th buyer was Rebecca Owen, who works in the Discovery District at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Guests at the event will include College Park Mayor Falzul Kabir, UMD Assistant Vice President of Real Estate Ed Maginnis and Secretary Jacob R. Day ’04 of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, whose grants provided more than $1.3 million for the downpayment assistance programs.
