The University of Maryland’s Ukrainian Student Association will host a candlelight vigil for Ukraine at 4 p.m. today by the sundial on McKeldin Mall. It will mark the anniversary tomorrow of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and will honor the victims of Ukraine’s ongoing fight for freedom and democracy.
“We would like to unite and thank the UMD community for the continuing support of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian UMD students,” said Tetiana Tytko, Ukrainian Student Association president. “We recognize how much the school leadership has done to help the Ukrainian students and scholars at UMD, and would like to personally thank everyone for their contribution.”
The vigil is open to the university community, as well as family and friends. Attendees are encouraged to bring flowers, toys, Ukrainian flags and peaceful posters.
