Terp Recognized Among Glamour’s 6 College Women of the Year

By Maryland Today Staff

A University of Maryland senior was named on Tuesday to Glamour magazine’s 2024 College Women of the Year: STEM Edition.

Reem Saleh ’24, an information science major, was among six undergraduates nationwide selected for redefining culture and expanding what’s possible for the next wave of women, whether tackling climate change, redefining health care or advancing technology like AI.

She is a Muslim and Arab American who hopes to make an impact in her field through her work and by inspiring others who might also not see themselves reflected in the tech industry.

“Diversity of thought and people is crucial in STEM, and I wish more people understood the importance of pushing for diversity in the field,” Saleh told the magazine.

She was born and raised in Montgomery County and transferred from Montgomery College. At UMD, she has been involved in the Global Fellows program in Washington, D.C., and interned at the Maryland Center for School Safety, where she worked on a data science project that examined students’ perception of their own safety in school.

Saleh is committed to using her skills in data science to tackle critical issues like school safety, refugee resettlement, and food insecurity.

Previous College Women of the Year alums include actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, lifestyle guru Martha Stewart and poet Amanda Gorman.
