A biennial campuswide climate survey sponsored by the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct and the School of Public Health (SPH) aims to assess the scope and nature of sexual assault at UMD and to identify effective means of intervention and prevention.
The Student Experience and Environment Survey was sent via email to 10,000 randomly selected full-time undergraduates. An additional round of reminder emails will be sent out on Feb. 15. The first 3,000 students to respond will receive $10 on their Terrapin Express account.
The survey asks students to share if they have been the victim of a sexual assault, where the assault occurred, if they had a pre-existing relationship with the perpetrator, whether they reported the assault, and other questions. The survey also inquires about experiences with sexual harassment, stalking and relationship violence.
The data will be analyzed by SPH faculty and presented to the Maryland Higher Education Commission. All survey responses will be kept completely confidential. Students have through Feb. 25 to complete the survey.
