Spirit of Maryland Award Nominations Sought

By Maryland Today Staff

The 2019 Homecoming Committee is seeking nominations for the Spirit of Maryland Award, an honor presented annually in lieu of a traditional homecoming king or queen.

Two members of the senior class who through their achievements have most exemplified the "spirit" of the University of Maryland will be honored during the halftime show of the homecoming game against Michigan on Nov. 2.

Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and communication skills. A committee composed of faculty, staff, and alumni interviews students who are advanced to the final round of the application process.

Nominees must have a minimum of 90 academic credits and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Seniors expected to graduate by May 2020 but who don’t yet have the 90 credits may still be eligible to apply.

The nomination and application forms are available here and are due by 4 p.m. Sept. 27.
