SECU MD Partners With Alumni Association on Financial Wellness Benefits

By Maryland Today Staff

SECU, Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union, on Monday announced a new partnership with the University of Maryland Alumni Association that will provide UMD’s more than 422,000 alums with financial tools, educational resources and exclusive benefits created to support their financial wellness throughout all stages of life.

“This partnership is about empowering alums to feel confident in managing their finances—whether they’re investing for the future or handling day-to-day expenses.” said Becky Smith, executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “Our goal is to provide the tools, resources and guidance to help them achieve both personal and financial milestones, all while celebrating Terp pride through alum events, sporting occasions and community engagements.”

SECU and the association plan to host various events throughout the year regarding financial wellness checkups, financial management and SECU’s range of products and services, including auto loans, counseling through SECU financial partners and more. Additionally, SECU will launch a virtual education series covering the most-requested topics relevant to millennials and other alum demographics, including savings products and the benefits of credit union membership.

"We are thrilled to partner with SECU to provide our alumni with valuable financial resources and educational opportunities,” said Jessica K. Roberts, senior executive director of the Alumni Association. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to supporting Terps throughout their lives, empowering them to achieve their personal and financial goals."

This partnership is an extension of SECU’s ongoing relationship with the University of Maryland, which began in 2022 with a 10-year partnership with the university’s athletics department. This agreement included naming rights to the football stadium, SECU Stadium, a significant gift to support financial literacy programs on campus and the construction of the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center.

SECU, the official banking partner of the Maryland Terrapins, in August also launched its Terps Card. which offers discounts on fan gear and gameday purchases, as well as points back on daily purchases, plus discounts and rewards at local businesses. Cardholders also benefit from SECU’s member services, 24/7 Visa credit card support and protection benefits.
