Purple Line Construction to Impact Local Roads

By Maryland Today Staff

Several area roads will have lane closures on an as-needed basis because of Purple Line construction in December. Affected roads are:

  • University Boulevard between Riggs Road and Adelphi Road.
  • River Road between College Park Metro and the Northeast Branch Bridge.
  • Riverdale Road between Kenilworth Avenue and Veterans Parkway.
  • Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Riverdale Road.

The 16-mile east-west light-rail line will connect New Carrollton in Prince George’s County and Bethesda in Montgomery County. Five of its 21 stops will be on or near the University of Maryland. Faculty, staff and students will be able to ride between those five stops for free once service begins, estimated in 2022.
