Darryll J. Pines, who will succeed Wallace D. Loh to become UMD’s next president in July, introduced a new website with information on his transition and a way for campus community members to offer solutions and ideas.
The website lists members of Pines’ transition steering committee, chaired by Ann G. Wylie, former senior vice president and provost. It also names the members of 11 transition subcommittees: Academic Affairs; administrative affairs/infrastructure; equity and inclusion; Intercollegiate Athletic;, partnerships; President’s Office; research enterprise; Student Affairs; funding allocations and budget; University Relations, communications and Alumni Association; and University Senate.
Pines charged the presidential transition team with developing a better understanding of the university community's perceptions of the structure and culture of both the campus and the relationships with partners and the surrounding community, according to the new website. The goal of this complex effort, which is to be accomplished through a collaborative, inclusive and transparent process, is to enable Pines to gain a clear understanding of the broad, complex campus landscape.
Pines is also soliciting views from every corner of campus on topics including what the university does well, challenges and opportunities and broad advice for him. To contribute, fill out the Voices of Maryland form.
He has scheduled a series of listening sessions in April, inviting the UMD community to attend. These may be shifted online; updated information will be shared as soon as it is available.
