University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines sent the following email to faculty and staff on Thursday:
As our semester draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the year we have shared together at the University of Maryland. We have collectively embraced challenges and propelled our university fearlessly forward. I could not be more proud to serve as the president of this great university, and as your colleague.
In recognition of your service and the need for a well-deserved pause, we will designate Dec. 22 as an administrative leave day for all regular and contingent II faculty and staff. University Human Resources will follow up with additional details.
We hope that you will enjoy this extension of the university's winter break and use it to rest and cherish the moments with your loved ones.
Sincerely,

Darryll J. Pines
