Recruiting for senior marshals at the university’s main Commencement ceremony on Dec. 18 is under way.
Marshals will represent their college and the entire graduating class. Qualified candidates must be graduating in August or December 2018.
The graduates chosen for this honor will be recognized at the campus-wide graduation ceremony and will receive a medallion commemorating their achievements. Senior marshals will also assist with the organization of the student processional and will be seated in the front rows for the ceremony. The names of all marshals will be printed in the program and will be acknowledged as a group from the podium.
All marshals are expected to attend both the Commencement rehearsal on Dec. 17 and the main Commencement ceremony the next day.
Nomination forms must be submitted by 9 a.m. Monday. In order to be considered, students must also complete the separate online application by 9 a.m. Monday. A graduating senior does not need to be nominated to apply for the position.
Questions can be sent to seniors@umd.edu.
