Missing UMD Student Is Found

UMD President Darryll J. Pines, Police Chief David B. Mitchell and Vice President for Student Affairs Patricia A. Perillo sent the following message to the campus community Wednesday night:

As you are aware, the University of Maryland Police Department has been leading the search for missing University of Maryland student Dilan Ashar, 22, who was last seen on Oct. 2 at approximately 2:30 a.m. at Terrapin Trail Parking Garage.

Tonight we write to share good news: Dilan has been found! Thanks to the immense efforts of UMPD and our entire community, Dilan has been reunited with his family. We thank all our Terps and community members who spread the word and supported this search.

A news conference will be held tomorrow morning for media only.

We understand recent days have been distressing. We encourage any student, faculty or staff member to seek assistance as needed. Please consult our mental health website, the University Counseling Center, the Faculty Staff Assistance Program or the university chaplains.

We are grateful for our Terrapin community for all the support you provided in helping to find Dilan.

Sincerely,

President Darryll J. Pines
Chief David B. Mitchell
Vice President Patricia A. Perillo
