Maryland Charitable Campaign Reaches One-Month Mark

By Maryland Today Staff

University of Maryland employees raised more than $30,000 for those in need during the first month of the annual Faculty and Staff Community Campaign.

The effort, which runs from Oct. 9–Dec. 18, is part of the Maryland Charity Campaign to raise money for nonprofits throughout the state. The campus goal is $163,000.

The university is focusing its philanthropy on the local community, particularly four charities: Maryland 4-H Foundation, SPCA & Humane Society of Prince George's County, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mid-Atlantic and Court Appointed Special Advocate-Prince George’s County.

Nearly 900 other charities are also part of the state campaign, so employees can find at least one to support.

Faculty and staff can donate online by payroll deduction or credit card. Checks require a paper pledge form.

Questions can be directed to each unit’s campaign captain or to Meredith Garfield at garfield@umd.edu.

Maryland Today is produced by the Office of Marketing and Communications for the University of Maryland community on weekdays during the academic year, except for university holidays.
