Marching Band Members Featured in Kennedy Center’s “Music Man”

By Maryland Today Staff

Count more than a few Terps among the “Seventy-Six Trombones” finale in the Kennedy Center’s production of “The Music Man”

The classic Broadway musical, which ends its six-day run today, stars Norm Lewis, Jessie Mueller and Rosie O’Donnell—along with about 90 members of the Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching Band who appear in the final number.

About half of the student musicians are featured in each of the eight performances, volunteering their time to appear on the stage. All of the students and Director of Athletic Bands Andrea Brown also were part of the dress rehearsal.

“Being a part of this production has been a wonderful experience for our students, and they have received high praise for their musicianship, energy and professionalism by the cast and creative team,” Brown said. “I know it will be a memory of their UMD experience that they will never forget.”
