University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh announced yesterday that the Fourth of July holiday, on a Thursday this year, would stretch an extra day into Friday, creating a four-day weekend for the university community.
On Monday, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared July 5 a state holiday, but gave university presidents the option to keep their institutions open if necessary to avoid disrupting classes or exams, and schedule the holiday on a later date.
