International Student & Scholar Services sent the following email to all international students and scholars this week:
The University of Maryland cares deeply about its community of international students, faculty and staff. We understand that recent changes to federal immigration policy and enforcement, including those impacting student visa status, have caused concern and confusion. We hear you, and we are available to offer support. There are many resources available to you while we continue to monitor evolving federal actions and policies related to immigration and international travel.
In addition to the International Students & Scholars Services (ISSS) advising services, the Office of International Affairs is offering new drop-in office hours in the event you need one-on-one support. These in-person office hours are held weekly on Wednesdays between 1-3 p.m. at H.J. Patterson Hall, second floor, Suite 2110.
The university is aware that some international students at institutions nationwide, including UMD, have experienced the unexpected termination of their lawful status in the U.S. ISSS will continue to communicate with impacted individuals to provide information specific to their situations.
Please remember that immigration issues are specific to each individual case and can be nuanced and complicated. If you have an immigration issue that you would like to discuss, please contact ISSS and see below for a number of resources.
The university and ISSS are carefully monitoring immigration changes and will periodically post updates on the ISSS website.
Thank you for all that you contribute to our campus community.
Sincerely,
Susan-Ellis Dougherty
Director, International Student Scholar Services
