Grand Challenges Grants Information Session Scheduled Tuesday

By Maryland Today Staff

A virtual information session from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday will provide an overview of the University of Maryland's new Grand Challenges Grants Program, the largest and most comprehensive program of its type ever introduced at UMD.

Up to $30 million in funding will support initiatives and projects designed to address enduring and emerging societal issues, such as climate change, social injustice, global health, education disparities, poverty, and threats to our democracy.

The grants program has two components:

  • Institutional Grants to fund development of new institutional structures such as interdisciplinary institutes, major centers or schools; or a new public-private partnership and consortia.
  • Project Grants to support innovative and impactful research, scholarship and creative activities.

The session will provide information about the goals of the Grand Challenges Grants Program and explain processes, timelines, funding details and more. Register for the online session, or learn more at
