Fearlessly Forward Awards Nominations Now Open

Nominations are open through Oct. 30 for the fourth annual Fearlessly Forward Awards, which include the Terrapin Innovation Award and the MVP Impact Award.

Up to 25 staff members will each receive a $1,000 prize and will be recognized at a reception in early 2027.

The Terrapin Innovation Award honors UMD staff members whose innovation and creativity—whether through completed projects or ongoing initiatives—embody the spirit of Fearlessly Forward and bring meaningful benefits to their unit, department or the university as a whole. For example, the staff member:

• Provides a creative solution to a problem or workplace challenge
• Suggests new ways to improve the quality of services or programming  
• Promotes productivity and/or enhances the workplace 
• Embodies the core values of the university 

The MVP Impact Award recognizes UMD staff members who, over the past year, have demonstrated a Fearlessly Forward attitude of excellence, remarkable service, and outstanding contributions that benefited their unit, department, or the university. For example, the staff member:

• Contributes a significant positive impact on the team  
• Demonstrates commitment and builds community within their team, department, and beyond
• Embodies the core values of the university 
• Provides quality work, sometimes behind the scenes, that contributes to the success of operations, programs, or projects  

Nominations must be 500 words or fewer, with each nomination being submitted by one individual for one staff member. Individuals are not eligible to receive this award in consecutive years.
