The Office of Undergraduate Research is seeking proposals from faculty members interested in leading Vertically Integrated Projects (VIPs) starting in the Fall 2026 semester.
The VIP program allows faculty to launch long-term projects and research ecosystems over three to five years that involve multidisciplinary, collaborative work for students. The projects are embedded in the core research and expertise of the VIP faculty mentor. VIPs are open to UMD undergraduate students of all disciplines and levels of experience.
Proposals for phase one of the process are due March 6.
UMD's initial investment in VIPs was led by the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Through a partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research, the program has grown to support a broader range and number of students. As of Spring 2026, 14 VIP teams have launched, representing six schools, colleges and other UMD organizations.
