Registration is open through Dec. 15 for the fourth annual UMD Data Challenge, running Feb. 20-27.
Students from the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland, Baltimore County and U.S. Naval Academy are invited to participate in the data exploration event hosted by UMD’s College of Information Studies.
All will tackle challenging problems exploring novel datasets, build technical aptitude integrating datasets to create multidisciplinary knowledge, and get real-world team-building experience. No data experience is necessary; students should just have an interest in analyzing real-world problems by looking at data and developing creative solutions.
Held virtually in 2021, the event will offer a weeklong format, giving students sufficient time to evaluate their dataset, formulate a question about it, and conduct dataset integration, analysis and results preparation.
Participants will have the option of working with a mentor who will guide teams through the Data Challenge process. In addition to meeting with a mentor, participants will have the opportunity to network with a variety of organizations involved in the event.
