Charles ‘Bob’ Reuning Named Chief Administrative Officer

The University of Maryland on Monday announced that Charles “Bob” Reuning has been named vice president and chief administrative officer, effective Oct. 1.

Reuning has served as interim vice president since October 2024. In this position, he oversees more than 1,100 full-time staff members working in areas such as public safety, human resources, transportation, emergency management, maintenance, housekeeping and other areas fundamental to university operations, touching every corner of UMD’s 1,352-acre campus and 14 million square feet of facilities.

Reuning was previously associate vice president and chief facilities officer for a decade. During his time in Facilities Management and then at the division level, Reuning has played a leading role in campus initiatives, including construction around the Purple Line and the implementation of Workday. He has been closely involved with implementation of the NextGen Energy Program, a public-private partnership to secure long-term energy service and ensure efficient, affordable energy for UMD. Key recent construction projects include Stanley R. Zupnik Hall, on schedule to open in Summer 2026, and the new Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center.

“For nearly a year, Bob has brought tremendous skill, experience and insight to our Division of Administration as its interim leader, and I am confident that he will continue to excel in this capacity,” said UMD President Darryll J. Pines.

Prior to joining the university, Reuning rose to the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy. He holds a Master of Science degree in financial management from the Naval Postgraduate School, an MBA in management from Golden Gate University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University.
