Applications Welcomed for ODK Membership

The UMD chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, one of the most prestigious national societies to recognize leadership, is accepting applications for the Spring 2021 semester.

ODK brings together juniors, seniors and graduate students with outstanding faculty members to recognize campus leaders and to encourage other students to achieve. It seeks accomplished leaders in five areas of campus community life: scholarship, campus or community service, athletics, journalism or speech, and the creative and performing arts

Since forming as the Sigma Circle of ODK at College Park in 1927, more than 4,000 students, faculty and honorary members have been initiated including U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer in 1962 when he was SGA vice president and other leaders such as Terps women’s basketball coach Brenda Frese and ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, and honorary members President Franklin D. Roosevelt and civil rights activist Julian Bond. Members names are engraved on the ODK Fountain on McKeldin Mall.

To be considered for membership, students must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.480 for juniors (60-89 credits), 3.520 for seniors (90+ credits), and 3.870 for graduate students.

Applications are available at odk.umd.edu and must be received electronically no later than 4 p.m. Feb. 12.
