The Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM) invites applications for the 2026 Research Seed Award Program and for 2025-26 Course Development Grants.
The seed grants support early-stage, interdisciplinary projects that use AI to address societal challenges. Priority will be given to proposals aligned with AIM’s four pillars: accessibility, sustainability, justice and learning.
The required letter of intent is due Dec. 7. Invited full proposals are due Feb. 27, with award notifications on May 1. Funded projects will run from July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027.
The Course Development Grants are designed to expand the university’s interdisciplinary AI curriculum. In support of the responsible and ethical integration of AI across all fields of study, AIM is offering funding across three tracks:
- AI + X for courses applying AI techniques within specific disciplines;
- New AI Course Development for courses addressing societal gaps aligned with AIM’s four pillars; and
- Pathway to AI for a collaborative team to develop a foundational and accessible onramp to AI for all undergraduate students.
Applications will be accepted through Feb. 16. Award recipients will be notified in late April, with funds disbursed prior to June.
