# Winter Storm, Campus Transformed

> Snowfall Sends January’s Few Students Outside to Frolic

*Mc Keldin Library Snow 01062024 RS 9058 1920x1080 — Even as snow blankets McKeldin Library on Monday, a few Terps are still drawn to the ODK Fountain.*

A powerful winter storm that swept across the Midwest and through the DMV on Monday turned the University of Maryland campus into a snowy playground.

The one-two wallop dumped 5 to 9 inches across the region, along with plenty of problems: treacherous roads, canceled flights, even power outages. It was the first time D.C. had measured more than 4 inches in a day since January 2022, according to the Weather Channel.

But that made the snow day for the few Terps on campus during the January session all the more of a treat. Sledding, snowball-tossing, snowman-making and snowboarding—it looked like a mini Winter Olympics.

UMD photographers brrr-avely ventured out to capture the action.
