Chip bag - Landfill Packets and wrappers are not recyclable or compostable. Earbuds - e-Waste Find an e-waste bin on campus at https://sustainability.umd.edu. Metal can - Recycle No need to remove any labels! Cans should be empty and free of food residue before recycling. Pizza boxes- Compost Pizza boxes cannot be recycled due to grease. These should go in the compost bin. If compost collection isn’t yet available in your building, these items should go to the landfill. Paper towels - Compost Paper towels and paper napkins aren’t recyclable, but they are compostable. If compost collection isn’t yet available in your building, these items should go to the landfill. Chicken bone - Compost Campus compost bins can accept all food scraps—even bones, meat, and dairy products. If compost collection isn’t yet available in your building, these items should go to the landfill. Glass bottle - Landfill Glass is no longer recyclable on campus. When possible, purchase items in metal cans or plastic bottles, which can be recycled. Plastic bag - Landfill Plastic wrap and plastic bags cannot go in campus recycling bins. Collect these and return to local grocery stores as you are able. Otherwise, these go in the landfill bin. Plastic lid and straw - Landfill Small plastic items cannot make it through the mechanical recycling process and end up in the landfill. Remove the lid and straw from your cup and place these in the landfill bin. Cardboard box - Recycle Remove all plastic and foam packaging (not recyclable), then flatten the box before placing in a campus recycling bin or dumpster. Thank you!
